Fonden Spring Nordic has over the last years increasingly been involved in ResilienceTech. We have invested both within defenceTech and within climate change mitigation.
In parallel, geopolitical tension and climate volatility are driving record public budgets for defense readiness, infrastructure protection, and energy autonomy.
The war in Ukraine and persistent hybrid operations across Europe have elevated defense readiness to the top of national agendas. Beyond conventional warfare, cyberattacks, drone incursions, and critical-infrastructure sabotage now blur the line between peace and conflict.
At the same time, floods, droughts, heat waves and biodiversity loss increasingly threaten societies and economies. In 2024, there were 27 “billion-dollar climate disasters” in the United States, three times as many as the annual average for the previous 44 years.
These twin forces - geopolitical confrontation and climate volatility - create a dual imperative: Societies must become both more resilient and better defended. Each driver reinforces the other. The technologies that help communities withstand grid failures and floods are often the same that ensure military installations, supply chains, and communication networks remain operational under pressure.
Based on our investment experiences and the commercial opportunities evolving, Fonden Spring Nordic intends to increase its investments in the Nordic region over the years within ResilienceTech.
